Between two dead ends, a wave

Metamodernism is not a compromise between its parents. It is the movement between them.

The thesis pole

Modernism

Believed in progress unconditionally. Build, scale, conquer — naive faith in technology.

The antithesis pole

Postmodernism

Deconstructed everything. Nothing is real, nothing matters, everything is a construct.

Metamodernism

Oscillates between both. Sincere yet aware. Idealistic yet pragmatic. Building while knowing it might break.

The wave is the position: hold the modernist will to build and the postmodern eye for what breaks — at the same time, in motion.

The problems are not what they seem

Three failure modes, one root.

AI is being weaponized — deepfakes, scams, data theft, social engineering at scale. Humans exploit AI for deception, replacing judgment with convenience. Others trust it blindly, treating probabilistic output as truth and delegating conscience to a machine.

None of this is fixed by a better model. It is fixed by a better relationship — which is why the answer is not religion, and not regulation, but understanding.

The last verb bends back to the first: technology serves life, and the loop closes. Break any link and you get one of the three failure modes above.
